The artist Daniela Brugger positions her work between artistic production, collaboration, curation, and art education, and views her practice as a mode of exchange. She questions supposedly given conditions and conceives informal knowledge production and dissemination as an organisational form of resistance and solidarity. Her works often include apparently known situations, objects and materials and concentrates on the hidden aspects within the seemingly familiar. Her work is lead by an understanding of alteration as a continuous condition.
She studied Art Education at the Zurich University of the Arts and Fine Arts at the HGK in Basel, initiated her own projects such as Knastradio – a radio project with delinquents or Who writes his_tory? – a collaborative writing project that investigates the reproduction of knowledge and structural discrimination on the Internet, and especially on Wikipedia. She has presented her work in form of installation, video and performance at Kunsthalle Basel, the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich in Vienna, Keleketla! Library in Johannesburg, zqm in Berlin and the Westwerk in Hamburg. Her work was awarded with studio residencies in Berlin and Johannesburg as well as the Kulturförderpreis of the City of Basel in 2018 where she works and lives.
